慈光学校
慈光学校 (慈光学校) was established in 2001 by Metta Welfare Association with the support of Ministry of Education (MOE) and National Council of Social Service (NCSS). The school began its operations at a holding site at Chai Chee Lane. In 2005, 慈光学校 moved to its current building in Simei. In 2008, it obtained the Approved Training Centre (ATC) status to start the ITE Skills Certification (ISC) 1-module course; and in 2013, the school started the ISC 4-module course as approved by ITE. The new extension block became operational within the same year. In 2014, 慈光学校 was one of five pilot schools for the S2W Prototype.
慈光学校 offers special education to students with Mild Intellectual Disability (MID) and to children who have Autism (ASD), aged between 7 to 21 years. Our students face functioning challenges and limitations in areas of daily life, such as communication, self-care, social skills, safety as well as the skills needed to live and work in the community.

课程
The school has six main programmes to cater to students (MID and/or Autism) from 7 to 21 years. They are: Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Basic (B), Career (C), Vocational (V), Employment Pathway Programme (EPP), and Maitri Programme (M).
慈光学校 students are supported by a team of committed Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) comprising of Social Workers, Psychologists, Speech Therapists and Occupational Therapists. Dedicated Job Coaches conduct supervision, job support and placement services at the work place to provide on-the-job training for students during their attachment.
慈光学校 is committed to character development and providing opportunities for active participation in order to imbue students with desired school values. CCE periods involve the teaching and discussion of values. There are other platforms for CCE including Performing and Visual Arts, camps, CCA, Social and Work Exposure outings, overseas trips, 价值观-in-Action (VIA) activities, and day-to-day teachable moments to inculcate sound moral and work values in our students.
PVA Programme was started in 2003 to allow students to experience and develop interest and enjoyment in their own creativity and that of others. Students are given the opportunity to experience their preferred PVA every Wednesday and Friday.
Batik Painting, Photography and Speech & Drama PVA are on the Artist-in-School Scheme (AISS) from the National Arts Council. This scheme supports the collaboration between 慈光学校 and local artists/arts educators in developing arts education programmes customised for their students.

In support of the vision, “Metta student leads an independent and meaningful life”, CCA is offered to all students to imbue knowledge, equip skills, and develop character. In addition, values such as perseverance, discipline, and determination are nurtured by teachers and instructors.

Since the school’s inception in 2001, it has grown from strength to strength, to provide quality education for our students. This is made possible with our team of dedicated staff, visionary School Management Committee, committed parents and supportive partners.
慈明学校 - A New SPED School
Metta Welfare Association will be working with the Ministry of Education to operate a new school, serving students with moderate-to-severe SEN (特殊教育al Needs) who have both ASD and Intellectual Disability (ASD-ID). The new SPED school will provide about 25 places per cohort. At a steady state, this will translate to 300 additional school places for students with ASD-ID aged 7 to 18 years old. The new campus, to be located in the East. In the interim, from 2021, students will have their lessons at the current 慈光学校 campus in Simei.
Aligned with MWA’s mission of meeting the needs of the community, we look forward to serving a greater number of children and youths with ASD-ID. The new school’s curriculum and pedagogy will cater specifically for students with ASD-ID. The curriculum will focus on developing students’ social interaction and communication skills, behavioural and emotional development, as well as cognitive and adaptive daily living skills.
